Space Warriors is, putting it mildly, utter crap. I didn't think anime could get this bad, but here it is to prove me wrong. There really isn't anything wrong with the characters themselves. Then again, they don't exactly do a good job standing out from hordes of lookalikes. We have a typical "nice guy" protagonist, an innocent female caught in the middle, a not-so-nice space pirate, and a corporate sleaze. There isn't anything impressive nor detractive about them. This results in a cast which is a little boring. The visuals are generally average, with good artwork and less-than-steller animation. The voice actors did a pretty average job (notice a common theme here?), too. Some of the minor characters were painful to listen to, though. Where Space Warriors fails, however, is in the story and execution. The premise is simple enough. The space pirate is wreaking havoc, apparently with a vendetta, and our hero Locke must try to stop him. While this could make for a decent action flick, the whole thing is held together by a story weaker than an sticky note. New characters make spontaneous appearances, cause a commotion, but never with a solid reason for their actions. There is an attempt at a plot twist, but it's nothing we haven't seen a zillion times before. The whole mess eventually accumulates to some sort of climactic duel, but the ending left me screaming "Aw, c'mon! That is so bloody lame!". I didn't know what was worse, the fact that the ending itself was awful, or that I saw it coming but could do nothing to prevent it. After watching Space Warriors I was left thinking this *could* have been good, but ultimately it ranked very poorly for entertainment value. I wouldn't give this anime to my worst enemy.
