High school student Wakana Gojou spends his days perfecting the art of making hina dolls, hoping to eventually reach his grandfather's level of expertise. While his fellow teenagers busy themselves with pop culture, Gojou finds bliss in sewing clothes for his dolls. Nonetheless, he goes to great lengths to keep his unique hobby a secret, as he believes that he would be ridiculed were it revealed.
Enter Marin Kitagawa, an extraordinarily pretty girl whose confidence and poise are in stark contrast to Gojou's meekness. It would defy common sense for the friendless Gojou to mix with the likes of Kitagawa, who is always surrounded by her peers. However, the unimaginable happens when Kitagawa discovers Gojou's prowess with a sewing machine and brightly confesses to him about her own hobby: cosplay. Because her sewing skills are pitiable, she decides to enlist his help.
As Gojou and Kitagawa work together on one cosplay outfit after another, they cannot help but grow close—even though their lives are worlds apart.

Review:
Let me kick things off by saying, “Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru” is an absolute JOY to watch! My first impression was it’s going to be a stereotypical slice-of-life anime with a dash of romance, but I couldn’t be more wrong! This anime does a fantastic job of blending the warm familiarity of day to day life with a fresh take on hobbies, passion, and even love.
I particularly appreciate the representation of cosplay – it’s shown as a form of self-expression and love for a character rather than just fancy clothes. The respect the creators show towards the art of cosplay, the painstaking process, and the gratifying results are splendid – truly, a treat for both seasoned cosplayers and newcomers to the hobby.
What truly stands out is the unique portrayal of the unlikely duo, Gojo and Marine, their interactions organically entwining two vastly different worlds – traditional Japanese doll making and eccentric cosplaying. The voice acting accompanying these characters infuses life into them, making them memorable and real.
If you enjoy subtle romance, then this Anime doesn’t disappoint! There’s a burgeoning relationship that progressively develops without overshadowing other story elements. The way it’s woven into the narrative is smooth, leaving you hankering for more, while also keeping you satisfyingly engrossed with the story.
The animation is beautiful and breathes life into the characters and the world. You can feel the textures of the fabrics being used in the sewing and the paint strokes when coloring the dolls. The character design for each person reflects their personality to the tee, adding depth to the overall story.
The music and sound effects never miss a beat! They blend seamlessly with the narrative, escalating both emotional and fun scenes to the next level. Even in quiet moments, the acoustic soundscape keeps you hooked.
Overall, “Sono Bisque Doll wa Koi wo Suru” is a heartwarming, funny, and emotionally charged anime that features terrific characters, a unique storyline, impressive artwork, and a generous sprinkle of captivating drama. It’s a must-watch whether you want to rent, buy or stream!
