Anime Review: Space☆Dandy 2nd Season
Space☆Dandy 2nd Season bursts back onto screens with more absurd humour, psychedelic visuals, and of course, plenty of rockin’ space adventures. The show follows Dandy, an alien bounty hunter with a love for all things slick and stylish. He is joined by meek and quirky vacuum cleaner QT and a cat-like Betelgeusian with a bad attitude, Meow. These three make up the crew of the Aloha Oe, tripping from one galaxy to another in search of alien lifeforms they can turn in for cold hard woolongs.
The all-around oddball crew returns, met with a series of new adventures and mishaps often involving bounty capture attempts of Rare Aliens. These alien species are unknown to database of the Universal Space Registration Bureau contributing largely to the zany episodes. Space☆Dandy 2nd Season continues to pay homage to classic sci-fi tropes while injecting its own unique brand of irreverence and comedy.
Storyline and Plot
In this season, the unpredictable tales of Dandy and crew are as diverse and chaotic as the galaxies they explore. While not much in terms of a long-term narrative develops, each episode proves to be a self-contained treat, and not without its share of poignant moments. It’s a daring and bizarre kaleidoscope of colours, sounds and narrative that traipses fearlessly across myriad genres – creating a most memorable spectacle for every space-comedy-loving anime fan out there.
Characters and Artwork
The characters remain as charmingly flawed as ever. Dandy, as the show’s flamboyant, slick-haired, so-called hero is hilariously in contrast to his bumbling personality. QT’s logical thinking and Meow’s lazy, ‘cat-like’ disposition provide additional layers of comedy. Each character has its own steep arcs in this season, delving deeper into their strengths and vulnerabilities.
Visually, Space☆Dandy 2nd Season is just as smashing as its predecessor. The animation style varies from episode to episode reflecting the series’ adventurous spirit. It’s a feast for the eyes, boasting both stunning visuals and wildly creative art direction.
Music and Soundtrack
The sound design remains impeccable. From a wide variety of music genres featured throughout to the top-tier VO performances, the auditory experience is as much a thrill as the on-screen antics. The opening theme, “Viva Namida,” delivers a feel-good melody that sets the laid-back tone effortlessly and the soundtrack throughout is a cool mix of outrageous disco, techno and jazz elements.
Final Verdict
Space☆Dandy 2nd Season sustains the chaotic comedy, payoff moments, and sensational animation from the first season but strives further in terms of scope and delivery. It’s a hearty combination of absurd comedy, bizarre adventures, and well-timed reflection. If you’re a first time intergalactic voyager or a returning fan, this trip is totally worth it! Whether you choose to rent, buy, or stream, this is a ride you won’t want to miss.
In conclusion, Space☆Dandy 2nd Season further cements its place in the pantheon of great whimsical sci-fi anime. It’s an astral and surreal ride that’s an absolute must-watch for fans of the genre.
