Anime Review: Seitokai Yakuindomo OVA
Synopsis
Seitokai Yakuindomo revolves around Takatoshi Tsuda, an ordinary high school boy who gets unexpectedly drafted into the Ousai Academy’s Student Council as Vice-President. The major catch? Ousai Academy was a female-only institution until a recent policy changed it into a coed school, but the female students obviously make up the vast majority.
The narrative follows Tsuda’s daily encounters surrounded by the lively female student council members. The council president, Shino Amakusa, is a good student but has a dirty mind. Vice president, Aria Shichijou, is of noble lineage and incredibly ditzy, while the diminutive treasurer, Suzu Hagimura, is brainy with a short temper.
Review
Seitokai Yakuindomo OVA continues the hilarity of the primary series, injecting its risqué humor into a variety of fresh scenarios. Its unique charm lies in the juxtaposition of its clean, high school setting against the unabashed crude humor, brought to life by the intriguing cast of characters.
Following the episodic format, each OVA successfully brings a lighthearted plot that is absolutely rib-tickling. While the taste of its humor may be subjective, the anime doesn’t shy away from being bold and consistently delivers laugh-out-loud moments. With well-timed one-liners and an array of sexual innuendoes, Seitokai Yakuindomo masterfully uses comedy to entertain its audience.
Our main character, Tsuda, stands as a hilarious embodiment of ‘the only sane man’ archetype amidst the ensemble of quirky characters. His reactions and responses to the girls’ eccentricities are likely to leave the viewers in splits. Moreover, the core female trio – the ladylike yet perverted Amakusa, the high-class yet airheaded Shichijou, and the petite, yet fiery Hagimura – add a witty dynamic to the overall show.
Visually, the animation remains consistent with the original series. The character designs are excellent, and animation quality does justice to the vibrant school environment it aims to depict. The sound department deserves a mention as well. The voice actors bring their respective characters to life, particularly the female leads, whose delivery of outrageous lines is commendable.
In conclusion, Seitokai Yakuindomo OVA is a brilliant continuation of the original series that should not be missed. If you are a fan of the show or love comedies that can make you laugh without any filtered humor, then this OVA is unquestionably worth buying, renting, or streaming. Revel in the unapologetically crude humor and splendid character dynamics that make this anime a unique comedy gem.
