Spriggan is an all-around exceptional anime movie, and I really enjoyed it. The action gets off to a neat start, and the animation is superb. I also liked the character designs {e.g. Ominae Yu's overall appearance and battle suit}. For a few brief moments, Yu acts kinda silly, and that adds to the charm of the film. Plus, Jean Jacque Mondo talks with that thick French accent {just as his character is French}, and he's a neat character. What I didn't like about the film was Colonel MacDougall. I always found kids to be weird {if not devilish}, but this dude is one twisted fella! Not only is he practically invincible, but he pretty much fits the persona of a truly pure evil child with godlike powers. I hate villains like that!

This flick is a change of pace from the usual action genre of anime. In fact, this is a story that could easily work as an overblown live action movie and possibly be produced by someone like Jerry Bruckheimer. I bought this at the mall after reading the back of the box at a music store and chanced it that it might be worth the money which I guess it was. It's basically James Bond action meets Raiders of the Lost Ark adventure. It's definitely a popcorn movie like someone had mentioned already and a lot of fun to watch if you favor the genre.

The animation is very good but the dialogue at times is pretty corny. The story is good enough to pull you in and the action which is mostly shoot-em-up bloody violence and some car chases is better than expected. So far up to date this is probably the best I've seen from ADV.

In general, this doesn't top some of the cream-of-the-crop bloody action flicks such as Akira, Ninja Scroll and Fist of the North Star-The Movie which are basically my top 3 favorite anime movies of all time. Still worth a look regardless of what anime category you like.

"Spriggan" is sheer 2-D fun. That's it, plain and simple. No massive angst, no teenage love triangles, no pondering the mysteries of human life. Just guns, martial arts, explosions, and a psychic bad guy.

While the story surrounding the mysteries of an artifact that is supposedly Noah's Ark is great and has a lot of potential, the focus here is on the action. Which is fine. What this movie lacks in "depth" and "character development" (Something that sends most otaku into childish fits), it makes up for in fun factor.

I enjoyed watching this. It isn't something I'd buy, or even watch again. Doesn't mean it sucked though.

Spriggan is the first real 'popcorn anime'. By that short little statement you might think that being a 'popcorn anime' means this anime is dumb, full of action and requires zero brain work. Well, you would be right, but unless you have a great dislike for action themed anime, when a title such as Spriggan does it this well I don't really mind.

Spriggan's storyline looks like it could have come from the Bruckheimer school of script writing and direction. Nothing is ever complicated and neither does it need to be. However, it may be that very fact that might have you shunning Spriggan for something rather more cerebal. At the end of the day though, the storyline and plot only exist as a vehicle to move along the fantastic action scenes that this anime has in spades.

Tremendous action scenes such as enthralling carchase through Budapest culminating in a stunning display of hand to hand combat and massive gunfights involving soldiers and Spriggan agents are just a highlight of the action scenes that Spriggan produces.

Obviously for the action scenes to be enjoyable and convincing, the animation and art has to be of a very high standard too. Thankfully they are just that. With Spriggan being a much more recent production, the animation is both fluid and convincing, showing off an immediacy that underscores the intensity of the action scenes contained therein. The art, whilst nothing spectacular does it's job fairly well with the various locales detailed to a decent enough standard with the line art being fairly impressive at times.

The soundtrack on the other hand is rather unspectacular with no particular part of it being especially memorable or impressive.

Spriggan is pretty far from perfect though. Because it intends to be a purely action driven production, people will either positively or negatively judge it on those some merits much as I have. Action fiends who cannot get enough of fast moving fight, chase and action scenes will find plenty to love here. Whilst on the other hand, those who are looking for a more intellegent anime, will be left unimpressed by the lamentable plot and predictable archetypical characters who have practically no depth and as such are somewhat one dimensional.

Spriggan was never going to be an anime that would appeal to all audiences, since it is never deep enough to achieve this. Again for what it is and what it aims to do, Spriggan works admirably well as the 'popcorn anime' production that it is. At the end of the day, Spriggan is an anime that you will love or you don't. If you like action films or action themed anime go for it, if you prefer something with more depth than puddle on a Summers day, steer well clear.

One thing is for sure, I can think of many worse action animes that would fill ninety minutes.

Ok, when i saw this movie it had a few good marks from me just cuz of all the hype i'd heard from my net friends, but when i watched it i was udderly depressed. Sure, the fights were good, but how many times do you think they had to play Metal Gear Solid 1&2 to write the script? Every single character can be related to a metal gear one and so can the entire plot! Think they might try something original next time?
