Synopsis Aria the Benedizione

The successor and branch manager of the Himeya Company—one of the many Undine associations housing female gondoliers—Aika S. Granzchesta surprises everyone when she rejects tradition and refuses to inherit the company's legendary gondola. Aika's apprentice Azusa B. McLaren, unable to wrap her mind around her mentor's unexpected decision, confronts her directly but to little effect. To better understand her reasoning, Azusa and her fellow Undines secretly plan to arrange a meeting with Aika.

With the much-awaited winter days in sight, accompanied by the tranquility and sublimity of Neo-Venezia, Aika reminisces about her journey as an Undine that forged her into the person she is today. As she vividly remembers all those invaluable experiences of the past, she trusts they will continue to guide her into the unknown yet boundless future.

Aria the Benedizione: A Serene Journey through Neo-Venice

Set in the 24th century on the planet Aqua, formerly known as Mars, Aria the Benedizione is the captivating continuation of the much-loved Aria series. This sci-fi slice-of-life anime offers a soothing exploration of life in the floating city of Neo-Venice, a replica of Earth’s Venice, moving at a relaxed pace – a refreshing change from the usual action-focused anime narrative.

Our protagonist, Akari Mizunashi, is an apprentice Undine, a professional gondolier, with Aria Company, one of Neo-Venice’s most prestigious water-guide companies. With a dream to become a Prima Undine, Akari spends her days practicing her rowing and navigational skills alongside her friends Aika and Alice. As they interact with their charming city and its citizens, the trio stumble across life lessons and heartwarming stories that form the crux of Aria the Benedizione.

Aria the Benedizione gracefully encapsulates the essence of everyday living, underlining the joy in simplicity. Each episode is a stand-alone vignette into the girls’ lives, weaving a tapestry of daily miracles and small wonders experienced by them. The overlying narrative arc is subtle but profound, making viewers appreciate the beauty in mundane happenings.

The charm of Aria the Benedizione lies not in intense climactic moments or high-octane thrill, but in its calming tranquillity and measured progression. The picturesque setting of Neo-Venice, with its beautifully animated waterways and dreamy architecture, act as the perfect visual tonic for the serene narrative.

Characters that Resonate: Character Review

The characters in Aria the Benedizione are intricately designed, each having a unique trait that contributes significantly to the overall mood of the anime. Akari is cheerful and optimistic, Aika is stubborn but well-meaning, and Alice is shy yet determined. Watching them grow and learn through ordinary experiences is satisfying and endearing.

The supporting cast of Aria the Benedizione also adds color and depth to the narrative, bringing the city of Neo-Venice to life. Characters like President Aria, Athena, and Akari’s mentor Alicia are memorable, providing comic relief, comfort, and wisdom in equal measure.
